This Is Where We Are Right Now
8th Annual International Open Call for Works in Video
14 May – 19 June 2021
Aggregate Space Gallery is pleased to present this selection of video works from our annual open call for time-based media. For the eighth year in a row, we intentionally chose to forgo a themed call so that a cohesive show could be discovered in the relationships between the submissions.
The works that stood out this year address, through architecture, nature, and fantasy, our changed relationship with space. Each of the video works playing concurrently within This Is Where We Are Right Now explore a pandemic-stricken world, where familiar locales are made unfamiliar with drastic changes in use. Whether being trapped in our computers, bounding through barren architecture, surveilling an empty playground, or anticipating the sounds of a city as it comes back to life, the individual media works examine the bizarrities of solitude and dreams of a life in another place and time. When working together in this immersive exhibition, these videos demonstrate our new-found strength and perspective in the face of tremendous adversity.
Featuring works by Alexandre AlagĂ´a, Cristine Blanco, Stijn Demeulenaere and Jan Locus, Carey Lin and Gabriel Gilder, Ellie Kyungran Heo, Raji Jagadeesan, Anna Landa, Allyson Packer and Jesse Fisher, Sun Park, and Mia Kiera Sweeney
