You inspire us to act on our vision!

Dear ASG Supporter,

Six years ago in May 2011, we made a discovery that would bring Aggregate Space Gallery (ASG) to Oakland. In the midst of wall construction to separate our woodworking shop from our studios, we stood back from the frame and were struck by the communal potential it added to the space. In that moment, we pictured hosting community and offering up the cavernous slate for ambitious art installations.

The founders and staff of ASG are so grateful for you, the artists, and everyone who has kept this resource alive by enabling us to make ASG’s Oakland home stand for so much more than we could have ever imagined. Thank you for your ongoing support!

From our very first day, you have helped grow a unique springboard for dialogue and exchange in the visual art, writing, and performance realms. Today, thanks to you, ASG stands as a stalwart home for Bay Area artists who need space and resources to take risks and showcase extraordinary work that ignites conversation and offers hope for what is possible in the world. With your help, we can adapt and progress in California’s challenging arts landscape.

Through your contributions, ASG will be able to support the ongoing growth and development of unique programs that are focused on the arts as a tool to take action and take care of each other. We have identified the following community needs that your donation can help meet:
  • NEW! We will be launching ASG alumni/ae artist-led classeswith two new prototype courses: Animating in After Effects for Artists (June 25) and Stop Motion Animation and Puppet Rigging for Artists (July 1-2).Whether you are a seasoned visual artist or just want to learn a new skill, we hope you’ll take a class yourself and spread the word to your friends. Taking a class not only supplies crucial earned income to ASG, but creates solid pathways for ASG artists to fulfill their role as great educators of the next generation.
  • NEW! Our first annual Animation Festival is coming up soon | July 21 – August 5, with a ticketed awards event on August 9. At ASG, we’ve always had our finger on the pulse of emerging video art and through the Festival, we look forward to engaging with new audiences by collecting and sharing the local wealth of animation work on an annual basis.
  • 2017 Curatorial Intern Exhibition by Shaghayegh Cyrous | August 18 – September 23 For the third time, we will turn to our Curatorial Intern to demonstrate the experience they gained while assisting our director, staff and volunteers during an eight-month tenure. Our Curatorial Internship gives real-world experience to emerging curators while allowing their artistic interests to take the forefront.
  • MFA Graduate Thesis Solo Exhibition | October 6 – November 4 For the fourth year, we will offer up the vast resources of ASG to a recent graduate of a Bay Area fine arts institution for her/his own solo exhibition. Previous recipients include ASG board member Alyssa Lempesis and Root Division resident Shisi Huang. We believe that providing an opportunity of this magnitude to a graduating student can boost hope and courage at a critical career point.
  • Mills Book Arts MFA Thesis Exhibition | November 10th – 25th For the third year, ASG will host the wholly unique Mills College interdisciplinary MFA in Book Art and Creative Writing Program Thesis Exhibition.
  • NEW! Finally, ASG is pleased to announce a suite of new programming made possible by the Kenneth Rainin Foundation! From August 2017 - July 2018, ASG will coordinate and host a multidisciplinary series in partnership with dance artist and curator Jesse Hewit that presents innovative performance works in conjunction with ASG exhibitions. The Friction/Function Performance Series invites performing artists to study the work of a visual artist on display at ASG, and respond to that work as a live subject.

We are very excited about the upcoming programming and bold projects that are in service of the artist’s vision and promise to engage viewers in new and dramatic ways!

ASG is poised for meaningful growth as a nonprofit and has taken great strides by growing our Board of Directors and creating a strategic plan. These tremendous structural and administrative efforts directly address the lack of resources available to organizations at our level. As such a small institution still predominantly run by volunteers and our founders, money raised from this appeal will support our arts programming, and allow for ASG’s continued focus on projects that do not rely on commercial sales. Help us reach our spring donation target of $10,000.

The founders and staff of ASG are so grateful for you, the artists, and everyone who has kept this resource alive by enabling us to make ASG’s Oakland home stand for so much more than we could have ever imagined. Thank you for your ongoing support!
